The first step is to go with Tony, an experienced CAA rated instructor for a one on one training/experience flight to see whether it is what you really want to do. If you enjoy the experience and would like to take it further you will need to get a basic certificate signed (supplied by us) from your GP to say that you are fit to take up private flying. If you have any concerns about this please speak to our office.
If later you decide you would like to train further and use the skill to earn a living (commercial pilots are in demand) you can build up your hours; do some more studying and after a total of about 100 hours (including those that you have done privately) you can take an additional flight test and obtain your commercial license.
If you feel that this is something that appeals to you, pick up the phone and arrange for your initial training flight for a cost of £240. If you decide to take the training further then each set of 10 flights will cost £2000. This pays for the hire of the balloon, Tonys instruction time, fuel, insurance and ground crew. This is truly a rewarding way to gain experience and make a step towards changing your career.
To obtain your private pilots license you will need to have about 25 training flights and prepare for your ground school exams in Air Law, Meteorology, Navigation, Human Performance & Limitations and a general paper on Balloon Systems. We will help you step by step through the exams alongside your flying training. When you and Tony both feel you are ready, you will do a practical flight test and solo to obtain your PPL. This will enable you to fly balloons anywhere in the world on a private basis.
